Sent Audio

The guys then sent me the audio, where they had someone read out the script so it could act as a voice over for the animation.

Checking and approving

I decided part way through me creating this animation, to send part of it to the client to check that they liked the way it was heading.

I emailed them a short clip, showing how the animation was coming along, they replied  stating that they loved the way it was looking and i should carry on with what i was doing

This was the clip i sent them

Conveyer type animation

To keep the animation flowing nicely, one key scene is one long tracking shot with different things popping up as the camera pans across. This was to try and emulate the journey and traveling being stated in the script.

Final with audio

So many layers! keeping the movement interesting

This particular scene to me a while to do, i didn't just want the little thumbs up to travel at the same speed as the others, i wanted it to seem like they had a mind of their own. To achieve this i had to individually key frame the movement of each image to move in its own way.

Thoughts

Two advertising students approached me to create a motion graphic piece to accompany their pitch campaign for the company Batiste. It was different and out of my comfort zone to be given a project where I was working to someone else’s specifications. This would be like working for a client so it was good practice. I was shown the concept and given the script to work to and the style they were looking for.

Importing to After Effects

I imported the images to After Effects and started to animation scene by scene, using key frames, null objects and 3D layers to achieve the movement.

Using Key frames, and keeping to the idea of having simple block imagery to fit with the style that the client wanted

Trying to link one scene to the next, by using null layers and the opacity to zoom into the tickets and have the hand and person gradually appear seamlessly

Using the script and having multiple bottle fly in the emphasis the number being read out

 Puppet Tool
Animating figures, having simplistic figures really helped as i could have the body in sections and easily animate the arms individually.

Making the letter a 3D layer so i change the x axis and make them swing in

Simplifying images

To fit the style the guys wanted, i took the images i wanted to use and change them to look more abstract and simple.

I then did this to multiple images until I had catalog of images I could use

My Rough Storyboards

After reading the script, i began to quickly sketch out scenes i thought could work in the animation

Thinking about how each scene could be linked to the next so it has a smooth transition

Planning the motion needed with the animation

Email - script

Before i could properly start the animation i needed to know what was going to be said on the voice over, so one of the advertisers sent me the script, from this i could then start to plan my storyboards.

Research - particular style

The advertisers were looking for a specific look to their video, they showed me an existing video they wished to emulate the style of.

I liked the style, it simplifies everything into block shape, the colours are big and
                                                              bold, helping it stand out.

emailing files

After the meeting I started to think of ideas of to how i could approach this. In the meantime, the advertiser's sent me imagery of the product so I could use it in my animation.

Pitching the idea

Once we meet up, they gave me an overview of the idea they plan to pitch to the company Batiste. The concept was that of an 'emergency box' campaign, they showed me through the idea step by step so i had a clear understanding of their idea. They had already drawn up some rough storyboards, which they showed me,  this gave an insight into the type of imagery they wanted and showed me a rough idea of the storyline, so i knew they key points they wanted to get across.

Approached by Advertising Students

i received a message through Facebook from one of the advertising student asking me if i was interested in creating a motion piece for a campaign they were pitching. Of course i said yes and arranged a meeting.
